FILIPINO bishops plan to send a “letter of solidarity” to their Hong Kong counterparts expressing sorrow over the deaths of eight Chinese nationals during the recent hostage-taking incident.
“We are planning to communicate with our counterparts” to offer condolences “and offer prayers for the healing process,” said Bishop Nereo Odchimar of Tandag.
The letter, to be sent next week, “is in solidarity with the Chinese people because innocent lives have been taken,” said the head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.
Everyone has to move on from the tragedy, he said. “We have to learn from our mistakes, from our lapses.”
Filipinos, especially those working in Hong Kong, should also understand the reaction of victims’ families, he added. “Let us offer our hands of understanding and pray for them.”
